Prayer Corkboard
Posted by:
LaceySparkle on 4/24/08:
As I’m sure everyone has noticed…everyone who actually reads this anymore that is, that attendance has been extremely low in the CafeJesus for quite sometime. It honestly pains me to see how abandoned the place has become.
I know there are several who love the Café as much as I do. I also fully understand how crazy and hectic life can become and I understand as well that real life responsibilities come before chat time. I don’t fault anyone in anyway for that.
I just keep thinking and keep wishing that there is some way to revive the place again. I’m not sure how to do it though, especially on my own. I have heard so many stories from people about how great of an influence the people of the CafeJesus chat room have been. Stories of ministering, encouragement, prayer support and fellowship.
I, myself, am one of those stories. The people I have talked with, either in passing or over long periods of time have greatly impacted me and even my relationship with God in a very positive way. I hate to see such a powerful ministry flounder and I wish I understood why it has. It took a community of people to sustain the CafeJesus for as long as it has been around. I believe it’ll take a community of people to breath life back into it and to be a tool for the Holy Spirit to reach the hurting and the lost like it has in the past.
I guess my purpose for writing this is to make a plea. I don’t know what has to be done. I don’t know how to change how things are. I don’t know what it takes to run a website like this. But I do know that with God, all things are possible.
I guess I mostly ask for prayer. That God’s will be done and that He would open the necessary doors and would breath His breath of life into the CafeJesus once more.
Perhaps we could all log in when we are online even though we don’t see anyone else in there. There just might be a few others who are watching the Who’s On list like we do and maybe we can begin to rebuild our attendance again.
So this is just my little two cents I suppose. But if there’s anyone who agrees and wants to see the CafeJesus prosper again like I do, maybe we as a group can accomplish something together. God bless you all.
In Christ,
Lindsay aka LaceySparkle

Cafe Jesus is such a good place and has been for almost as long as I can remember. especially the Ops and a lot of really good friends.
I will try to log in more even if nobody is there and maybe some people will come for the first time and can learn about Jesus and I got to have more courage and not be scared to talk about Jesus to people. Cafe Jesus is the best place on the internet 77.218.96.54

Yeah, it is sad...not sure why a lot of the people seem to have quit coming in altogether. But I will offer my two cents of input on the situation.
I do think that we as a group need to work on our welcome of new visitors. Realistically, when the room was full (20+ people a night, I remember those days)...it was mostly people who have been coming to CafeJesus for years. A few new people would come in at various times, and they'd feel overwhelmed and leave. Most of them expressed openly to the room that they weren't sure who to really talk to and basically it seemed like the whole room was this tight little 'clique' where everybody knew each other and only focused on the 'important' people that they knew. So naturally...a lot of those new people may not have come back, because they probably felt rather insulted. Thus, the continuous posts I have seen new users say in the chat..."Do you all know each other in person?" Oftentimes...right after they asked this, someone would give a snappy "just jump right in" comment to the person. So...in fact, they probably jumped right out and never came back. Indicating that they could see that everybody was so buddy-buddy that they didn't pay attention to the new people at all, other than just a quick greeting. I felt this way when I first started coming to CafeJesus, which was somewhere around 6+ years ago or something like that. I got used to it and know the regular people fairly well, now. But that is mainly because I was invited to CafeJesus by a friend, and continued coming in because I knew that one person amidst all of the crowd that I otherwise didn't know. I personally kept coming and have come to know a lot of the regular people here because I don't just leave because of stuff like that. However, a lot of the new people apparently find it offensive that no one wants to chat with them, and they leave and never come back. So...while no one in particular is to blame for that, we bear the burden as CafeJesus members. We should try to be a little more welcoming and communicative to new people.
Some of the members who have been coming to CafeJesus for years...got tied up with a lot of things in their life, and they apparently "don't have time" to come in any longer.
In regards to..."Perhaps we could all log in when we are online even though we don’t see anyone else in there. There just might be a few others who are watching the Who’s On list like we do and maybe we can begin to rebuild our attendance again."
I've actually come in countless times throughout the day...nobody else would be in the chat. But I'd come in and sit there, watching the chat...waiting for someone to come in. Not many people will come in and wait if they see no one in the chat. However, if someone is there...more will come as the number of people in the chat increases and shows up on the Who's On list. The problem is...sometimes nobody seems to come in for hours, throughout the day. I've had days when it was just me alone in the chat, for hours. The chat "times out" every 10 minutes if you don't type something. So...doing that 6 times an hour basically looks like you are spamming the room for no reason. I've had days when I waited for hours for someone to come in...I'd step away for a few minutes to do something or get something to eat, etc. I'd come back...and an OP had come in, saw that I seemed 'idle' and kicked me out. Then they themself would leave...and the room would be back to where it started. So I pretty much quit doing that...and unless people logged in at the same time with two people...that same thing that happened to me will be happening to other people. On the contrary...I've come into the chat when one or more OPs would just be sitting there idle, for hours...apparently not timing out for some reason. I'd try to speak with them...no reply. Only they wouldn't get kicked like a regular user...yet doing the same thing. So...I became rather frustrated with trying to get the chat going throughout the day, when I was basically seen as the "bad guy" multiple times by various OPs...as if I was somehow "wasting server bandwith or space."
So yes...if we log in with at least one other person to chat with, that might work. But then also...how would all of us coordinate something like that? Most of the people here know each other only in the chat room itself, so that is just about impossible to do.
We could get the chat going again, if everyone worked together...and if we were more welcoming to new people. Just my two cents...and prayer is awesome and works, but if we as CafeJesus members don't actually do something ourselves to physically draw other people in...it's useless.

I, too, have been greatly blessed by all those in the cafe. Wouldn't be where I am right now without Jesus and all the prayers that have been sent up by the good folks in the cafe. Glory!
I would love to be and help in whatever capacity at my disposal for the cafe. One thing that would be wonderful , like myself, who is a night owl that there could be someone there in those wee hours of the morning when you need a prayer said or an encouraging word to get through! If I can be that person then I am willing to do that! It is a lonely world out there in those wee hours!
Father, God in the name of Jesus pour down your blessings on the cafe and all those in it or those about to join! Let the word go forth and allowing the reaping of all the seeds that have been sown, to now be harvested to Your Honor and Your Glory Lord!. in Jesus' mighty name I pray! Amen and Amen 4.224.18.76

Father God, I come to Your throne boldy on behalf of this ministry, I pray that once again people will gather to encourage one another in Your love. Lord I pray that each person who has been minsitered to through this site will be reminded to pray for this ministry.
Blaze and STL have been faithful stewards over this ministry, I pray that You open the storehouses of heavens and fill them to over flowing as they have so freely given to each and every one of us.
Lord, I am not going to remember the 'good old days' I am asking for a fresh wind of Your Spirit to blow though this place. I have seen signs, wonders and miracles happen as we gathered in the Hen House and worshipped YOU! Salavations, healings, deliverance.. all in Your Holy Name. Once again, pour out Your blessings and bring the latter rain ... the greater rain over this house!
glory to Your Holy Name... WHOOOOooOOoOoooOooOOoooOoo.. Jesus is still my big Brother and God is still my Daddy!! 24.161.212.208

Re: CafeJesus & prayer corkboard

I agree. It's so depressing to want and need someone to chat with online, only to find that no one is online like they use to be. The prayer corkboard is another disapointment. I've logged prayer requests, only to find no one has prayed for our situation..........pretty disheartning!! 154.5.208.250

This place has been a blessing for me big time! I have been coming here for several years. In that time I have had my moments where I have been deeply depressed...and thought about harming myself to cope with it all. I came here to "stall" my destruction and in doing so had my mood lifted greatly and was encouraged. I hate to see this place die down! Will try to be more active.

I totally agree Lacey. I check often when I am home and see no one in there. Makes me sad, too.
I love cafejesus, too.
Let's bring it back to life!!
