I awoke
and I
wondered
why you were
singing.
Every trill in your voice
prevoked a dream
in my head
and paralyzed me
in this briar-patch bed.
Now,
Before now,
in falsehood to lie,
I’d wait for your song
to define me,
For your moves to
remind me
of who I am,
As if those
rhythms should
weave me together
into a constellated tweed,
Shatter me awake,
Force me to breathe,
Yet, in this quaint moment
in which my borrowed time
would lend itself null,
I found it pleasing
to be simply pleased
by your pull.
Where once
I asked
to be crippled by
your limerick
so ripe,
I think I’d
just be
satisfied
with listening
tonight.
