Daylight leaks
into it,
the displaced enigma
that shows in your smile.
Enough is enough,
I'd tell myself
to drum the counter-rhythm,
but you stir in me something more.
Beneath it,
whatever it is,
I find the very gnashing
pang that once guided me to hell.
Daylight breaks
into it,
and after the staleness
should wisp away like chaff,
I'd still never come back to you.
I've found who I am.
I've found my smile again.
I've gained it all
by losing-
you,
represent more than
yourself;
I am content to be new-
to die to you.
The scar you left
made me beautiful.
I don't hate you.
I finally, rather,
love myself,
even the parts you mutilated.
